Outside of my academic responsibilities at the University, here are the professional and commercial activities in which I am involved.
Managing Director, PILECO
I am managing director of PiLECo, which is a private consulting firm that develops algorithms, intellectual property and long-term investment strategy for extending any portfolio’s longevity. In essence, PiLECo is in the business of helping endowments, pension plans, family offices and individuals ensure their funds last for as long possible. We do this using a unique process of (i.) quantifying, (ii.) protecting, (iii.) extending and then (iv.) monitoring the many dimensions of financial longevity, to ensure they are aligned with the objectives of the trustees and sponsors.
Targeted White Papers
In addition to my formal academic writing, I write non-scholarly White Papers sponsored and paid for by organizations in the financial industry; mutual fund companies, insurance companies as well as trade organizations interested in furthering or promoting a particular viewpoint. These (non-peer reviewed) articles are effectively work-for-hire, confidentially negotiated on a case by case basis, but depend on my interests and availability. Board Member at CANNEX
A few years ago, I sold my QWEMA software start-up company to CANNEX Financial Exchanges, where I am currently a member of the Board of Directors. CANNEX is a privately held business that generates and collects (very) large quantities of data in the financial, insurance and especially the annuity business. Although I am not involved in their daily operations I do provide occasional input and have a financial stake in the company. Presentation & Sales Coaching
I have delivered over 1,000 lectures to audiences all over the world and have amassed deep experience about the good, the bad and the ugly in presentations and sales pitches. In fact, for every lecture I have given, I have had to endure 2-3 speakers on either side. This gave me an idea, why not offer suggestions?
